SIXTH PLACE IN BAHRAIN IS LIKE A VICTORY – FELIPE MASSA
As Williams continues to set the pace at the front of the midfield, its team driver, Felipe Massa believes that coming off in sixth positionon Sunday in the Bahrain Grand Prix was like getting a victory.
On the opening lap, Massa made a good start to pass Nico Hulkenberg and Kimi Raikkonen. Following the restart of the safety car, he was even able to rise to as high as fourth.
However, Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo were able to battle back past en route to P4 and P5 respectively while a delighted Massa rode on to finish sixth on team owner Frank Williams’ 75th birthday.
Massa who spoke after the race said he was very happy with the performance today even though Frank deserved an outright victory.
“Definitely I’m happy with the performance today. Frank deserved a victory, but I would say today is like a victory. We finished in the best position we could, I fought the whole race, great start, great first lap overtaking Kimi, but also after the safety car, overtaking Daniel,” he said.
With the result, Massa was able to rise to seventh place in the drivers’ championship. He trails only behind the drivers of Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull. Massa seems to be in his best form despite plans by him to retire at the end of last year.
The Brazilian race driver mentioned that his plan to retire hinged on staying on with the team that was correct according to his belief.
As such, when he had this chance to race again, he came back because for him, Williams is the team to race for as they are professional and also gives him his due respect while he also does the same for them.
