As Williams continues to set the pace at the front of the midfield, its team driver, Felipe Massa believes that coming off in sixth positionon Sunday in the Bahrain Grand Prix was like getting a victory.

On the opening lap, Massa made a good start to pass Nico Hulkenberg and Kimi Raikkonen. Following the restart of the safety car, he was even able to rise to as high as fourth.

However, Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo were able to battle back past en route to P4 and P5 respectively while a delighted Massa rode on to finish sixth on team owner Frank Williams’ 75th birthday.

Massa who spoke after the race said he was very happy with the performance today even though Frank deserved an outright victory.

“Definitely I’m happy with the performance today. Frank deserved a victory, but I would say today is like a victory. We finished in the best position we could, I fought the whole race, great start, great first lap overtaking Kimi, but also after the safety car, overtaking Daniel,” he said. (more…)

With his retirement getting closer, the Williams team has decided to present Felipe Massa with the Formula 1 car which he had raced in at his final home Brazilian Grand Prix as what they call a “leaving gift”.

Massa will be drawing the curtains down on his F1 career after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday. At a special team farewell party held on Saturday night at the Yas Marina paddock, the Brazilian was at the centre stage.

Claire Williams, deputy team principal, had paid glowing tribute to the so many contributions by Massa since joining the outfit in 2014. After that, she announced that apart from the presents of a photo album and a specially commissioned cartoon to illustrate his career, Massa would be given his Brazilian GP chassis as well.

Title sponsor, Martini had ensured that the car featured a unique rebranding by replacing its name with “Massa” on the car.

An emotional Massa who struggled to hold back tears after hearing the announcement, told everyone that he was filled with gratitude for everything Williams had done for him, (more…)

Wolff Sells More Williams F1 Shares

Mercedes motorsport chief has sold off more Williams F1 shares which has reduced his shareholding to a mere 5%. It is American businessman Mr. Brad Hollinger who has bought the huge volume of shares from the Merc chief.

Toto has been continuously depleting his connection with Williams ever since he took the reins at Mercedes & in 2014 only he sold 5 percent of shares to healthcare entrepreneur Hollinger. More shares have been exchanged & the American entrepreneur is the holder of 10% Williams share now. Ironically, Wolff’s involvement has been reduced to a mere half of that.

Wolff has stated in one of his recent press meets that both he & his bosses are glad now that his low investment level at Williams is less enough to create any dispute of interest. (more…)

Reshuffling Of The Staff Of Technical Department By The Team Of Williams

Reshuffling of the line up of the department of technicality is what harped upon. A key part included bringing in Dave Robson, the engineer of race of former Jenson Button at McLaren. At Williams Robson, became the engineer of race after Andrew Murdoch. His role has been heightened to a senior level.

At the factory, the group of performance will be led by Andrew where he would develop skills, technology, engineering his team and constantly improvising on the performance.

Throughout the season improvements are brought before the cars. Carl Gaden is also promoted from mechanic of the chief racing team to a senior engineer of the car systems. His earlier position is going to the numero uno mechanic Mark Pattison. (more…)
