Williams would certainly want the ability to have a number of drivers per team according to the new executive director of the team, Toto Wolff. Williams currently have Bruno Senna and Pastor Maldonado as their drivers for the 2012 F1 season. However, the performance of both these drivers has not been satisfactory, but it is not an easy decision for Williams to replace them. It has been estimated that Bruno Senna brings in around € 10 million per season, while Pastor Maldonado is responsible for € 30 million of the revenue. This substantial amount of money needs to be replaced in some form or the other if the team needs to go in for a better driver.

As a result, Toto Wolff has said that it would be great if the rule change that has been proposed of bringing in many drivers per team comes into effect. It is very much likely that Williams will not retain Bruno Senna beyond the end of the season. The test driver Valtteri Bottas has already been lined up as a replacement for the Brazilian. However, replacing him will certainly not be easy given his recent form, which has seen him finish seventh in the Hungarian Grand Prix.

“I would rather have three cars next year. Valtteri is a great talent and we want to keep him, but there is also an economic side. I am impressed with Bruno. He is not only an intelligent and sensitive driver, he also learns quickly. Our concern is to support him in the best way possible, knowing that he has lacked some practice on the Fridays. He has had good moments and days when things have not worked but, in Hungary, everything worked very well,” said Toto Wolff in a recent interview given to the TotalRace website.
